With Blue Transference, I wanted to create a piece that could seamlessly flow from one style to another and create a blend of rhythmic and stylistic colors. In the work, the F blues scale is utilized as a sort of harmonic springboard into multiple different keys and scales. However, as the work changes in harmonic color, I really wanted to maintain a consistent energy that would also transfer through the piece by utilizing several rhythmic idioms in the marimba part.
Ultimately, the goal for Blue Transference is to achieve a constant flow of motion through multiple styles, rhythmic and melodic idioms, and ensemble interplay. In the end, the work provides an intense, grooving tour de force for both the performers and the audience alike. |
