Forged by Fire is designed to be a sort of introductory piece for the marimba soloist with a traditional percussion quartet accompaniment. The solo marimba part is set for a 4.3 octave instrument with focus on more fundamental 4 mallet techniques while still occasionally exploring more advanced techniques such as in the cadenza.
The percussion quartet parts are also designed to be a fun, yet manageable challenge for high school percussionists that utilize percussion instruments typically found in a high school band room. As all well made steel tools, are forged through the fire of a blacksmith, well trained musicians are forged through musical challenges that shape them into the fine individuals that become through their study and hard work. As a private lesson teacher and music educator, it has been my honor to know and teach so many of these individuals. Forged by Fire is dedicated to all my students, past, present, and future. Forged by Fire is a fantastic, explosive addition to your percussion ensemble repertoire, guaranteed to please performers and audiences alike! |
