Jubilee is my reflection upon the numerous weddings that I took part of in some way or another in 2013. However, I wanted to steer a slightly different direction compositionally than many other wedding themed pieces. With this work, I wanted to delve into the mixed emotions of angst, joy, anticipation, uncertainty, stress, and even paranoia that is involved with planning a wedding and actively being part of the wedding.
While the first movement acts as a prelude, the second movement is a somewhat wild, rhapsodic, dramatic processional. In this movement you will hear the churning energy of the event that will eventually give way to an aria-like, tranquil scene between the bride and groom as they mentally and spiritually connect with each other through the energy of the festivities. All their preparation turns to joy and determination to take on what is to come, and their enthusiasm transcends over the whole festive atmosphere that leads into a joyous conclusion. |
